Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill

We visited these three cities in two days. Our favorite was Chapel Hill but we loved Duke's campus in Durham.

When in Raleigh we toured the state capital (below).

Raleigh state capital building. Small compared to other states and not an actively used capital. Both branches have relocated to other parts of the town.

After touring the capital we went to Artspace where an old factory has been turned into studio and gallery space for artists. One of my favorites was Ann Harwell, an incredible quilter and artist. Madonna Phillips, a mixed media artist, combined paintings with epoxy and glass.

As with any other city we drove around looking at the architecture and downtown.

The next day we went to Durham where our stop was a tour of Duke University. The Gothic chapel was just jaw dropping as was the campus. They had beautiful gardens, dormitories, and campus buildings. Their was a huge mix in topography and a great place to run.

Billy also made a stop to see the famous Duke Blue Devil basketball arena.

Across from the basketball stadium was the football stadium. Having both gone to Division I schools we are used to 60,000+ person arena. Their stadium is smaller than some high school stadiums in Texas.

For lunch we went to downtown Chapel Hill and ate at Crook's Corner so Billy could have shrimp and grits.
