Louisiana Visit- State Capital & Rural Life Museum

Another two items on Billy's list were the state capital and Rural Life Museum.

The state capital was nicer than Florida's and a great example of art deco architecture. The observation deck was closed so we were limited to the fist floor senate and house chambers. We were able to see where Huey P. Long was shot and feel the bullet hole in the wall. He was controversial governor in Louisiana's history.

Afte the museum we walked to the Louisiana History Museum. We only added one hour to the meter and wish we had added three. The museum was incredible and we only finished one of two floors. Louisiana's culinary, slave, treaty days, etc were all described in great detail and really gave a better feeling of how the state evolved.

The Rural Life Museum is an exhibition of plantation life in downtown Baton Rouge. Outbuildings from actual plantations have been moved to the site and preserved in their original state. It was amazing to read that some people lived in the houses up until the 1970's. Billy wanted to learn how his people lived and I think he was very happy to be living in the 21st century.
